BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Thomas College men's soccer team held on after a late goal from the University of New England to take a 3-2 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Kyle Patterson (Gorham, Maine) put the Terriers on the board in the ninth minute with his second goal of the season, assisted by Alexander Thompson (Auburn, Maine). Josh Morrissey pushed the lead to 2-0 just before the half in the 41st minute, with Jahzardae Samuels (Pembroke, Bermuda) assisting on the goal. The Nor'Easters answered right back on a goal by Lee Esposito to make it 2-1 at the half.
Samuels scored his first collegiate goal off a feed from Zenawi Bowen (St. George's, Bermuda) in the 64th minute to give the Terriers a two-goal cushion once again. UNE mounted a late comeback, scoring in the 72nd minute, but Jonathan Dutka (Durham, N.H.) stood strong in goal as the Terriers held on for the 3-2 win.
Dutka stopped two of four shots to pick up his third win of the season. Will Shearon took the loss for UNE, allowing three goals on five shots.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
*The Terriers' 3-1 record through their first four games is their best start since 2012, when they started the season 5-0-1.
Thomas will host Berkeley on Sunday, September 9 in a 3:00 PM match on Smith Field.
