MBB: Colby-Sawyer Slips by Terriers, 81-79

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Thomas College men's basketball team fell to Colby-Sawyer College 81-79 in a non-conference game on Tuesday evening.

Zach Mackinnon (Kennebunk, Maine) tied a career-high in points, scoring 26 points on 7-15 shooting from the field and 5-11 from three-point range. He also was perfect from the free throw line, making all seven of his shots.

Lovegeurson Fleurine (Fort Pierce, Fla.) added 17 and pulled in 12 boards for his sixth double-double of the year. Jordan Goodson (Orlando, Fla.) also had a double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Demetris Webster (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) supported with six points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals.

The Terriers were able to get to the free throw line often and made their opportunities count, going 20-29 from the stripe.

The teams were evenly matched through much of the night, with 11 ties and 14 lead changes through the contest. However, the Chargers stayed ahead through much of the evening, holding the lead for over 28 minutes of game time to Thomas' 4:34.

With the score tied 79-79 in the final minute, Colby-Sawyer's Patrick Coffey was fouled and made both of his free throws to make it 81-79 with four seconds to go. Thomas advanced the ball and called a timeout with 1.5 seconds remaining. The Terriers were unable to get a clear shot off on the ensuing inbound play and a desperation three-pointer was off target to give the Chargers the 81-7 win.

Thomas will resume its North Atlantic Conference (NAC) schedule on Friday, January 10 when they head to Northern Vermont University-Johnson for a 7:30 PM game.
