WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's basketball team defeated Maine Maritime Academy 79-73 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Saturday afternoon at Larry Mahaney Gym.
The teams were even through the opening minutes, with MMA eventually pulling ahead with a 14-8 lead at the 12:30 mark. The Terriers clawed away over the next 10 minutes, eventually taking a 32-31 lead with 2:20 to go. Thomas scored eight straight from that point to close the half, including a Zach Mackinnon (Kennebunk, Maine) four-point play with a three-pointer at the buzzer and made free throw, as Thomas took a 40-32 lead into the break.
Thomas continued to hold their lead through the second half after going up by as many as 15 two minutes into the period. MMA slowly chipped away through the half, making it 67-65 with four minutes to go. Thomas held the Mariners off down the stretch, though, and came away with the 79-73 win.
Prior to the game, senior forward Nolan Smeeton (Lebanon, Maine) and senior student assistant Shane Cleveland (Lebanon, Maine) were honored.
Thomas will host UMaine-Farmington on Tuesday, February 12 at 5:30 PM in their NAC season finale.
