Thomas Shuts Out Wildcats in Home Opener Behind Greene’s Two Goals

WATERVILLE, ME - In their season opener, Thomas shut out Johnson & Wales 3-0 in a non-conference field hockey game Friday afternoon. Sophomore Michelle Greene was able to strike in two goals in the winning effort.

The Terriers managed to get out to a 1-0 lead after a goal by Greene just inside of the circle at the 7:50 marker. Greene continued to make an impact on the game with another tally in the first half at 24:54 to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead. Thomas outshot the Wildcats 15-2 in the first half and held a 10-1 penalty corner margin.

The second stanza started off with a lot of midfield play by both teams, until freshmen Erica Blake scored a goal at the 59 minute mark assisted by Lauren Hachey to push the Terriers lead to 3-0. The score would stand, as the closing half saw little action at either end.

Sofia Sourgiadakis recorded two saves on three shots in the win, while her counterpart Jaclyn Lyons had 12 saves. The home side outshot Johnson & Wales 24-3 in the victory.

Thomas will be back on the turf Sunday at 12 pm, hosting Anna Maria.
