HALLOWELL, MAINE – The Thomas College ice hockey team earned their first home win of the season, defeating St. Joe's 6-2 on Friday evening at the Camden National Bank Ice Vault.
Rajhan Munnings (Providenciales, Turks and Caicos) put the Terriers on the board first with a breakaway goal midway through the first period. The Terriers continued to dominate the first period of play with goaltender Tom Green (Biddeford, Maine) making several key saves. Ryley Austin (Lisbon, Maine) scored the Terrier's second goal with a slapshot from the point, and 23 seconds later Jaymen Swygert (Summerville, S.C.) scored his first goal of the game to give the Terriers a two goal lead heading into the first intermission up 3-0.
The Terriers started the period with a couple scoring chances, but St. Joe's was able to score their first goal midway through the second period to cut the lead to 3-1. Swygert scored his second goal of the game on a redirection of a shot from the point by Ethan Scripture (Bangor, Maine) to make it 4-1. St. Joe's scored their second goal of the period late, cutting the Terrier's lead before the second intermission to 4-2.
After a physical start to the third period, Munnings scored his second goal of the game at the midway mark to push the score to 5-2. Cameron Bigelow (West Gardiner, Maine) scored in the final minute to give Thomas the 6-2 win.
Green earned the win in net for the Terriers.
Thomas will return to action on Saturday, November 23 when they host Colby-Sawyer at the Ice Vault.
