WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team took two games over UMaine-Presque Isle on Sunday afternoon to complete their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) weekend series sweep.
GAME 1: UMPI 1, Thomas 6
The Terriers struck early, with a Kyle Gleason (Danville, N.H.) RBI triple giving Thomas a 1-0 lead in the first. Tyler Gee (Falmouth, Maine) and Alexander Miller (Brandon, Fla.) each had RBI hits in the fourth that extended the lead to 3-0, then Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine) scored on a ground out in the fifth to push the lead to 4-0. After UMPI got one back in the top of the sixth, Thomas answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to secure the 6-1 victory.
Ryan Scepansky (Blandon, Pa.) pitched six innings to earn the win, allowing one run on seven hits with four strikeouts. Quinton Stebbins (Farmingdale, Maine) came in to throw a scoreless seventh to shut the door.
GAME 2: UMPI 0, Thomas 8
Miller scored on a groundout in the first to once again give Thomas an early 1-0 lead. Thomas scored two in the second, including an RBI single by Roberto Duran (San Diego, Calif.) to make it 3-0. The Terriers put the game out of reach in the sixth, putting up eight runs with RBI triples by Kappelmann and Darren Kelly (Foxboro, Mass.) and an RBI single by Dominic Esposito (Portland, Maine) highlighting the inning and giving Thomas the 8-0 win.
Cody Cousins (Wells, Maine) earned the win on the bump, throwing six scoreless innings while scattering five hits and striking out eight batters.
Thomas will visit Bowdoin on Monday, April 15 for a 4:30 PM game.
