Dutka and Taylor Named NAC Man and Woman of the Year Nominees

WATERVILLE, Maine – The North Atlantic Conference (NAC) has announced the nominees for the 2019 NAC Man and Woman of the year and Thomas College seniors Jon Dutka (Durham, N.H.) and Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine) have been nominated.

Men's soccer goalkeeper Jon Dutka helped his team win NAC Championships as a freshman and as a senior, earning All-Conference honors in 2018 as well. A Management major, Dutka was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America (Phi Beta Lambda) and the vice president for the Alpha Chi honor society. A regular name on both the Dean's List and President's List, he earned NAC All-Academic Team honors twice. Dutka represented his team on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and received the 2019 Thomas College Male Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year award.

Dual-sport standout Katie Taylor recently graduated with a 3.99 GPA and a bachelor's degree in Political Science. Taylor captained the Terrier's field hockey team for three years, and the softball team for two. She earned NAC weekly recognition, All-Conference honors, and earned conference championships in each sport (softball 2017, field hockey 2018). She was also selected to the NAC Sportsmanship Team for both sports, twice for softball. Taylor was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and an officer for the Law & Policy Club and Alpha Chi honor society. She served the Thomas community in several ways, including as a Peer Mentor, SALT Ambassador, Student Ambassador, and a Peer Tutor in several subjects. In her final year, Taylor was selected as the NAC Softball Senior Scholar Athlete, earned the Thomas Award for exemplifying scholarship and leadership, and was elected by her peers to speak at the 2019 Thomas College Commencement.

Both the NAC Man of the Year and NAC Woman of the Year awards are modeled after the NCAA's Woman of the Year program which honors graduating student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence, service, and leadership.

The NAC Man and Woman of the Year award winners will be announced July 17 and 18, respectively, and will be honored on their campuses during the 2019-20 academic year.

The NAC Woman of the Year will be considered for the NCAA Woman of the Year award. The NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose the Top 30 national honorees — 10 from each division.

The selection committee will then determine the top three honorees in each division from the Top 30 and announce the nine finalists in September. From those nine finalists, the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will choose the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year.

The Top 30 honorees will be celebrated, and the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year will be named, at the annual award ceremony on October 20 in Indianapolis.
