WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College women's soccer team was handed a 4-0 loss to Castleton University in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field.
The Terriers drop to 2-9 (1-4 NAC) on the year while the Spartans improve to 5-6-1 (4-1 NAC).
The Spartans applied early offensive pressure in the first half. Rylee Nicholas got Castleton on the board in the 18th minute as she settled a crossing pass in the box from Katie Sanders on the right site. Her shot beat Terrier keeper Devynn Turner (Casco, Maine) for a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later Julia Carone added a goal after running through the Thomas defense untouched. Nichols tallied her second of the game in the 29th minute on a crossing pass from Bronwen Hopwood to give her team a 3-0 lead before the half.
Castleton added another marker in the 74th as Makenzi Bellando sent in a crossing pass to Aubra Linn who one-touched the ball into the left side, finishing the scoring at 4-0.
Turner was given the loss in goal for Thomas, after stopping 10 shots. Kiley Baran was given the win after being relieved in the second half by Rachel Shambo.
Castleton outshot Thomas 35-2 and held a 12-2 advantage in corners. Emily Dufour (Waterville, Miane) held the only two Thomas shots on goal.
The Terriers will take on Green Mountain on Sunday, October 8 at 12:00 p.m.
