Howorth's OT Goal Seals 3-2 Victory

WATERVILLE, ME – Bronte Howorth drove down the left side of the pitch, then chipped the ball over the head of the keeper to give Thomas a 3-2 overtime win against University of Maine-Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon. Howorth finished with a goal and two assists in the final day of the Terrier Women's Soccer Classic played at Smith Field.

Bethany Heald gave the guests an early 1-0 advantage just 10 minutes into play, as she received a trough ball from Janae Libby, then broke the Terrier defense and beat keeper Paige Leary. The score would stand until the 75th minute of play, as Kajsa Kaufeldt tied it up off an assist from Howorth.

Maine-Presque Isle regained the lead on another marker from Heald at 86:58. With less than one minute remaining however, the Red and Black would even the score on a corner kick from Howorth that found the head of Kaufeldt and over the fingertips of Owl net minder Allison Lopez.

Leary recorded five saves on the day, while her counterpart Lopez had four stops in the losing effort.

Overall, Thomas outshot the opposing side 20-13, while holding a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Terriers will be back in action on Wednesday, September 10 as they travel across town to face rival Colby at 4:00 pm.
