Terriers Roll Over UMPI, 7-0

WATERVILLE, ME – Thomas (1-3) was able to come away with their first victory of the season, defeating University of Maine at Presque Isle (2-2) 7-0 on Saturday afternoon in the final day of the Terrier Women's Soccer Classic. Seven different Terriers found the back of the net in the victory.

It took just three minutes for the home side to find the back of the net, as Bronte Howorth found a through ball from Kajsa Kaufeldt, put a move on the keeper then buried it in the open net. Howorth would be the one setting up Elizabeth Goodall for the second tally with a pass inside the box that beat the keeper to the left side.

Goals by Elizabeth Anderson and Renee Libby would increase the Thomas lead to 4-0 to end the first half of play. The Terriers held UMPI to just two shots, while taking 18 of their own in a lopsided first half.

The closing stanza would be similar to the first, as Kaufeldt got a cross from Howorth just three minutes into the period that she put to the left side of the goal. Lindsy Hoopingarner and Haylee Cote would count for the other Thomas goals in the closing half, which saw the game-winners continue to pour on the pressure, taking 20 shots to the visitors three.

Kate Thibodeau was credited with the win, recording one save. Her counterpart Amanda Larrabee had a busy contest, facing 21 shots with 14 stops.

Anderson, Cote, Hoopingarner, and Libby all recorded their first collegiate goals in the win.

This was the largest margin of victory for Thomas since 2010 when the Terriers defeated University of Maine-Augusta, 9-1.

Thomas returns to the pitch Friday, September 13 as they travel to Daniel Webster.
