Thomas Romps Wheelock in Season Opener, 15-3

BOSTON, MA Thomas College was able to walk away with a season-opening victory, defeating Wheelock College, 15-3, on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest. Senior captain Miranda Tinsman led the Terrier attack with a game-high five points, including four goals in the victory.

Junior midfielder Katie Gavin led Wildcats' offense with a pair of goals and added a ground ball and a draw control. Classmate Molly Centore tallied a goal and also picked up a pair of ground balls, won two draws and caused a turnovers.  

The Terriers scored the first seven goals of the day, including a pair from Tinsman. She netted the game's second goal unassisted at the 23:39 mark and followed with another tally less than two minutes later to give the visitors a 3-0 cushion with 21:51 to play in the first period.  Tinsman found sophomore midfielder Erin Nelligan for the Terriers' seventh goal coming at 7:19 of the first half.  Tinsman's third goal gave Thomas a 9-1 advantage with 17 ticks left in the first half and her fourth and final score increased Thomas' lead to 12-3 on a free position shot with 12:56 remaining in the game.  Nelligan scored three times herself, while junior middie Brittany Premo scored her second and third goals of the day to close out the game for the Terriers.  Junior midfielder Jennifer Day was third player for Thomas to notch multiple goals with a pair. 

The Wildcats opened the second half by scoring two of the period's first three goals in the first 10 minutes of the stanza. Gavin scored both goals for the Wildcats with her second cutting the deficit to 10-3 with 20:11 left to play in the game.  Centore put Wheelock on the board when she converted a pass from Ferrante at 5:24 of the opening half.

Premo racked up a game-high nine ground balls to go with a pair of caused turnovers and two draw controls, while Nelligan came up with three ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover for the Terriers.  Senior attacker Nora Rauch registered two assists and a ground ball. 

Sophomore goalie Brittany Fox earned the victory for Thomas, stopping three of five shots in 36:20 of action, before being relieved by senior keeper Jasmine Bishop, who turned away one of two shots she faced.  

The Terriers travel to Long Island, NY to take on Saint Joseph's College (NY) at 5:00 p.m. on March 12 for their spring trip.
