Terriers Rough Up Lawrence; Fall to Worcester St. in Spring Games

CLERMONT, Florida – The Thomas College softball team defeated Lawrence University, 10-1, and fell to Worcester St., 11-0, on Friday afternoon at Legends Way Park.

Thomas 10, Lawrence 1 – 6 innings

The Terriers' offense went to work early in the first inning as Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine / Noble) led off with a triple to left center.  Courtney Veilleux (Sidney, Maine / Messalonskee) plated Taylor with an RBI single.  Sydney LeBourveau (Jericho, Vt. / Mount Mansfield Union) reached on a fielder's choice and Veilleux scored on a wild throw.  Korrie Laren (Blackstone, Mass. / Blackstone-Millville) knocked in the third run on a double to left field to score LeBourveau and a give Thomas a 3-0.

In the bottom of the third, LeBourveau started with a single through the left side.  As Laren hit a single up the middle, the ball got past the Lawrence center fielder, allowing LeBourveau to score all the way from first. 

The Terriers scored another run in the fourth as Taylor got on with a two-out single.  Veilleux doubled down the right field line to score Taylor for a 5-0 lead.

After Lawrence put one on the board in the top of the six, Thomas scored five runs to enact the mercy rule.  Taylor smashed a double to left center to score Lauren Guppy (New Sharon, Maine / Mt. Blue).  Veilleux reached on a fielder's choice that scored Madison Bentz (Algonquin, Ill. / Ottawa Township).  With two runners on, LeBourveau ended the game on a three-run homerun to finish at 10-1.

LeBourveau earned the victory on the mound for Thomas in six innings of work, allowing six hits and one run.  She also went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored.  Taylor finished at 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs.

Worcester St. 11, Thomas 0 – 5 innings

The Lancers scored in all four innings with 11 runs on 15 hits while the Terriers committed three errors.  Worcester State pushed across eight runs in their last two innings and shut the Terriers out to finish the game in five innings.

Taylor, LeBourveau, Lexi Colpack (Franklin, N.H. / Franklin), and Kayla Bess (Madison, Maine / Madison) each record a hit in the effort.

The Terriers will face Oberlin College on Saturday, March 25 in a doubleheader at Legends Way.
