HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Thomas College men's tennis rebounded with their first victory of the 2017 season, defeating Wisconsin Lutheran College, 8-1, on Sunday afternoon at Hilton Head High School.
The Terriers move to an even .500 record in the early season at 1-1 while the Warriors remain winless at 0-11.
Thomas began the day with a clean sweep in doubles play as Zachary Disch (Waterville, Maine / Waterville) and Ryan Chasse (Fort Kent, Maine / Fort Kent) defeated Derek Sallmann and Jon Wordell, 8-5, on the number one line. In number two doubles, Ross Munn (Brunswick, Maine / Brunswick) and Kaleb Payson (Lamoine, Maine / MDI) took down Ben Wordell and Jake Stellick 8-4. The Warriors forfeited the match in number three doubles, giving the Terriers the win.
The Warriors earned their lone victory of the match as Sallmann defeated Chasse in number one singles 6-1, 6-2. Munn rallied back in number twos, dropping Ben Wordell 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) while Disch cruised past Jon Wordell 6-3, 6-1. In number four singles, Jared Waterhouse (Dayton, Maine / Thornton Academy) made quick work of Stellick 6-1, 6-0 while Payson handed Jake Larson a 6-0, 6-2 defeated. Wisconsin Lutheran forfeited in the number six slot.
The Terriers will be back in action on Monday, March 13 as they continue their spring trip against Nazareth at 9:00 a.m. in Hilton Head, S.C.
