Men's Basketball Set for Coaches vs. Cancer Classic

WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College men's basketball team will finish off their non-conference schedule as they travel to Bronx, New York for the Lehman College Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.  The Terriers (5-3, 3-0 NAC) will face the host team, Lehman College (4-5, 2-2 CUNYAC), on Thursday in a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.  Thomas takes on Stevens Tech (5-1, 4-0 Empire 8) at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.

The Terriers will face two strong non-conference opponents to prepare for the remaining North Atlantic Conference (NAC) schedule.  Thomas currently sits at the top of the NAC with a 3-0 record after knocking off Maine Maritime, Green Mountain, and Castleton at home.  Thomas averages 75.1 points per game while shooting 45.8 percent from the field throughout the season.  One of the biggest strengths of the Terriers is their ability to move the ball, ranking first in the conference in assists with 16.9 per game.

Senior Tyheem Simon leads the NAC with his 23.6 points per game and sits second in field goal percentage at 60.7 percent. Simon has scored over 20 points in the last seven contests, including 32 points in their last game at Plymouth State.  Junior center Carlos Gonzalez sits second on the squad with 11.5 points per game and also sits fourth in the conference with 8.5 rebounds per game.  Senior guard Ian King ranks fourth in NCAA Division III, averaging eight assists per game.

Lehman

The host of the holiday tournament enters on a small losing streak after dropping their last two contests.  The Lightning faced a North Atlantic Conference opponent in their second game this season as they defeated Johnson State 101-72 at the Vassar College Tip-Off.  Lehman uses a balanced offense as four players are in double digits for scoring. 

The Lightning average 78.6 points per game while shooting 45.9 percent from the floor.  They are led by Andrew Utate who averages 16 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.  Senior Damian Bellamy sits second on the team with 12.9 points per game while leading in rebounds with 6.6.

Stevens Tech

The Ducks come into the Lehman Holiday Tournament riding a four-game winning streak and a 5-1 overall record.  Their only loss this season came in a 62-60 defeat to non-conference opponent Fairleigh Dickson University on November 22.    The Ducks with face NAC contender Castleton on Thursday and then the Terriers on Friday.

Stevens Tech averages 84.2 points while shooting 46.6 percent from the floor.  Their experienced starting five consists of two seniors, two juniors, and a sophomore.  Senior guard Patrick Barron leads the Ducks' offense with 16.3 points per game and 46.1 percent shooting.  Senior Evan Klimchak averages 15.5 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per contest.
