WATERVILLE, Maine – Tiffany Weeks (Kennebunk, Maine) scored her first career hat-trick to lead the Thomas College field hockey team to a 5-2 victory over Bates on Wednesday evening on Bernatchez Field.
Kelci Faulkingham (Belfast, Maine) got Thomas up early, scoring off a corner insert by Allie Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) in the third minute to put the Terriers up 1-0. Weeks scored her first in the 17th minute, assisted by Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine), then made it 3-0 in the final minute of the half on a goal assisted by Gregoire.
Britney Gregoire gave Thomas another early goal in the second half to go up 4-0 less than six minutes in. The Bobcats cut the Thomas lead in half shortly after, scoring two goals by Riley Burns and Victoria McGee in less than a minute to make it 4-2. Thomas held off the Bates surge, with Weeks getting her third in the final minute to give the Terriers the 5-2 win.
MacKenzie Oberholzer (Hancock, Md.) made three saves on five shots to earn the win for Thomas. Ellie Bauer took the loss for Bates, allowing two goals in just under 20 minutes of action, before being relieved by Adalae Durand.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The win for Thomas is the first in program history against Bates, having lost the previous six meetings against the Bobcats
- The Terriers' five goals are the most the team has scored in a game since September 3, 2016, when they defeated Nichols 5-1.
Thomas will host Simmons on Sunday, September 23 in an 11:00 AM game on Bernatchez Field.
