MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Haley Thebarge (Smithfield, Maine) scored twice to force overtime, but the Thomas College field hockey team ultimately fell to Salve Regina 3-2 in extra time on Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks got out to an early lead with Ashley Cody netting a pass from Vanessa Frost to put Salve Regina up 1-0 5:27 into the game. Thebarge evened things up in the 14th minute off a feed from Kelci Faulkingham (Belfast, Maine), following a corner entry, to make it 1-1. Salve Regina took the lead back eight minutes later to take a 2-1 lead into the break.
Thomas pulled back even on another goal by Thebarge, again receiving a feed from Faulkingham after a corner entry. The score stayed even through regulation and into overtime, where Salve Regina took the win in the 74th minute off a goal from Hannah Filiault.
Ally Daly got the win for the Seahawks, stopping seven of nine shots. MacKenzie Oberholzer (Hancock, Md.) made four saves in the loss.
Thomas will visit crosstown rival Colby on Tuesday, September 11 at 7:00 PM.
