SARATOGA SPRINGS, New York – The Thomas College field hockey team allowed five second half goals en route to a 7-1 loss against No. 12 Skidmore College on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
The nationally ranked Thoroughbreds move to 8-4 on the year while the Terriers fall to 1-10.
The Terriers opened the scoring in the 12th minute as junior Tiffany Weeks (Kennebunk, Maine) tallied her third goal of the season on a deflection.
Skidmore netted two goals of their own to take a 2-1 lead before the half. In the 27th minute Caroline Saros tied the game up at 1-1 followed by a goal with 36 seconds remaining from Marissa Folts off of a corner.
The Thoroughbreds added five unanswered goals in a 12 minute span in the second half to finish the scoring at 7-1. Miranda Davenport, Gabby Hyman, Sarah Winters, Kelsey Denby, and Saros were the goal scorers for Skidmore.
Leah Kruse (Norridgewock, Maine) stopped an impressive 19 shots in the effort for Thomas before being relieved by Jessica Russell (Pembroke, N.H.). Senior captain Caitlyn Poulin (Knox, Maine) recorded a defensive save. Elizabeth Coughlin was given the win in goal for Skidmore.
Skidmore outshot Thomas 42-5 and held a 23-4 advantage in corners.
The Terriers will New England College on Saturday, October 14 at 11:00 a.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend.
