Field Hockey Earns NFHCA Team, Individual Academic Awards

WATERVILLE, Maine – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) has released its academic honors for the 2016 season and the Terriers' program was well represented. 

National Academic Team Award

The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum team grade-point average of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.  Castleton, University of Maine at Farmington, Husson, and Thomas were among only 125 Division III institutions that received the national award.

8 Student-Athletes Named to National Academic Squad

Eight Thomas student-athletes were named to the 2016 ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad.  The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.

Fifty-eight student-athletes represented the North Atlantic Conference from Castleton, Colby-Sawyer, University of Maine at Farmington, Husson, New England College and Thomas.  The following Terriers received the award: Abbie Charrier (Waldo, Maine / Mt. View), Miranda Gagne (Winslow, Maine / Winslow), Lindsay Morong (Liberty, Maine / Mt. View), Krysta Porter (Unity, Maine / Mt. View), Caitlyn Poulin (Knox, Maine / Mt. View), Katie Taylor (Lebanon, Maine / Noble), Katherine Welch (Pittsfield, Maine / MCI), and Emily Wilcox (Lowell, Mass. / Lowell).

Taylor Honored as NFHCA Scholar of Distinction

In addition, Taylor was one of 13 North Atlantic Conference student-athletes named to the 2016 ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA Collegiate Scholars of Distinction.  The DIII Scholars of Distinction recognizes those student-athletes that achieved a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.90 or higher during the first semester of the 2016-17academic year.  This is Taylor's second year in a row of receiving this honor.

Only 209 Division III student-athletes received the award.
