WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College field hockey team fell to the University of Maine at Farmington, 2-0, in a North Atlantic Conference matchup on Saturday morning as part of Thomas Homecoming Weekend.
The Terriers drop to 3-10 (1-3 NAC) overall in the loss while the Beavers improve to 8-3 (3-1 NAC) in the victory.
The Beavers broke open the scoring in the 24th minute of the first half as Carly Raymond pulled the ball from a scramble in front of the Terrier cage and slammed in a goal for a 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, a tough bounce of a Terrier defender went right to a wide open Emmah Spahr on the left post. Spahr redirected the ball into the Terrier goal for a 2-0 lead going into the half.
The scored remained at 2-0 throughout the second half as the Beavers outshot the Terriers 6-1.
Senior goalkeeper Abbie Charrier (Waldo, Maine / Mt. View) turned aside 12 shots for the Terriers in the in the defeat while Patty Smith made one save in the win for the Beavers. Sophomore Tiffany Weeks (Kennebunk, Maine / Kennebunk) had two defense saves for the Terriers. UMF outshot Thomas 19-3 for the contest.
The Terriers will play host to non-conference opponent Plymouth State on Wednesday, October 19, in a 6:00 p.m. contest at Bernatchez Field.
