HALLOWELL, Maine – The Thomas College hockey team defeated Central Maine Community College 6-3 on Wednesday night at the Camden National Bank Ice Vault.
The Terriers got out to an early lead with a Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine) goal three minutes in. Thomas took the 1-0 advantage into the second intermission.
Thomas doubled their lead early in the second when Alex Berard (Winslow, Maine) scored a shorthanded goal to make it 2-0. CMCC answered right back with a goal of their own less than a minute later to cut the lead to 2-1. Thomas took a 4-1 lead midway through the second with back-to-back goals by Zach Gagne (Augusta, Maine) and Cameron Bigelow (West Gardiner, Maine) in a span of less than 30 seconds. The Mustangs cut the lead to two in the final minute of the period, making it 4-2 heading into the third.
Tito Naranja (Fort Kent, Maine) scored a minute and half into the final period to make it 5-2, but CMCC answered again to pull the score to 5-3. Berard put the game away midway through the period, scoring his second of the game to give Thomas the 6-3 victory.
Tom Green (Biddeford, Maine) was solid in net for the Terriers, allowing three goals.
Thomas will visit Colby-Sawyer on Friday, January 25 at 7:00 PM.
