WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team battled to a 2-2 tie with Colby College after the game was called off due to darkness following the eleventh inning at H. Allen Ryan Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The Mules pushed across a run in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead. Tyler Mulberry reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Matt Garcia to score.
Colby added an insurance marker in the top half of the sixth as Matt Treveloni took off second base on a steal. The throw down to second allowed Ben Coleman to score safely for third as he slid in for a 2-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the frame, the Terriers rallied back to score two runs, notching the game up at 2-2. Riley Simonetti (Minneapolis, Minn.) got the Terriers on the board first as he scored on a wild pitch. Grant Corbett (Manchester, N.H) reached on an error by the shortstop that allowed Antonio Martinez (Coral Springs, Fla.) to score.
The Thomas and Colby bullpens held strong the rest of the way, not allowing a run to score until the game was called off after the eleventh inning.
Payton Kennison (Livermore, Maine) started for the Terriers in four innings of work, allowing three hits and one run. Matt Rutherford (Saco, Maine) scattered four hits and a run in three innings of relief. Cody Cousins (Wells, Maine) and Nate Martin (China, Maine) each threw two scoreless innings.
Bobby Forese threw 5.1 innings in the start for the Mules as he allowed two hits and two runs (one earned). Daniel Schoenfeld gave up one hit and no runs in 1.2 innings while Jackson Ward finished with four scoreless innings.
The Terriers will travel to the University of Maine at Farmington for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 27.
